1 [I,T] (not used in the continuous tenses 不用于进行时) to receive sounds with your ears 听见: Can you speak a little louder -- I can't hear very well. 我听不清楚,请你说话大声一点儿。I didn't hear you go out this morning. 你今天早晨出门我都没有听到。Did you hear what I said? 你听见我的话了没有?
Compare hear and listen. Often, hear means to receive a sound without necessarily trying to; to listen is to make a conscious or active effort to hear something I always wake up when I hear the milkman come. I love listening to music in the evening. Listen -- I've got something to tell you. hear! hear! used for showing that you agree with what sb has just said, especially in a meeting(表示同意,尤用于会议)说得对! won't/wouldn't hear of sth to refuse to allow sth 不准许某事: I wanted to go to art school but my parents wouldn't hear of it. 我很想进美术学校,可是父母不准。 hear from sb to receive a letter, telephone call, etc from sb 接到某人的来信、电话等 hear of sb/sth to know that sb/sth exists because you have heard him/her/it mentioned 得知…的存在或消息(因为听说过): Have you heard of the Bermuda Triangle? 你有没有听说过百慕大三角区?
