　　我们知道，在这个社会上，有很多辛勤付出的劳动者，有警察，有医生，有教师。。。他们的工作日复一日，年复一年，给这个社会的安全和稳定带来巨大的贡献。

　　今天我们要了解的一份伟大的工作，是firefighter.

　　我们看过电影《救火英雄》，《烈火雄心》。这些描述火灾的电影，更是让firefighter在人们的心中烙下了深深的印记。

　　A firefighter is the man whose job is to run towards danger, straight into buildings filled with flames, smoke, and explosive substance.

　　在危险场合，firefighter是救火英雄

　　A firefighter can be called on to do anything from putting out small rubbish fires to fighting a larger fire in a factory or warehouse.

　　在生活中，他们的日常工作更多的是处理紧急事件，解决困难，思想教育和意识传播。

　　They also respond to medical emergency calls, like car accidents. When they aren’t actively fighting fires, they work in the community.

　　说到这里，大家会想到，firefighter在社区里的宣传活动，帮助居民提高消防意识和普及消防常识. 那么他们会怎么做呢？

　　- Giving a speech to students about fire safety

　　- Visiting construction sites to check the emergency exits

　　- Posting stuff on the bulletin board about prevention

　　他们的工作要求很高，是一个extremely competitive field.

　　Required training and skills

　　- Excellent physical condition

　　- Passing a challenging written exam, an oral interview, a series of physical tests

　　- To stay calm when things seem like they are falling apart

　　我们称firefighter为城市英雄。因为他们一直在saving lives. 不会害怕吗？

　　有一种说法叫：get over my fear 克服我的恐惧

　　在挽救了别人的生命后，有一种感觉，是 can’t think of a more rewarding job，没有比这个更有意义的工作了。
