Tuition and Fees These pages provide information and advice to prospective graduate students about graduate fees including details about Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer fees, cost of living, payment instruction and information about your fee status and fee liability. Fee examples provided on this website are sample fees only and are provided as a general guideline. Please make sure to consult with your department and/or email gradfees@ualberta.ca for clarification if you require assistance. Fall/Winter Fees The following sample assessments are general guidelines for Canadian and International students registering in graduate programs during Fall /Winter terms. Please note that these fee breakdowns are divided into two groups of current students: those who were admitted to their program of study prior to Fall 2011, and those who were admitted from Fall 2011 onwards. Admitted Prior to Fall 2011 International Student Fall 2016 /Winter 2017 Sample Assessments Admitted Prior to Fall 2011 The following sample assessments are general guidelines for international students registering in graduate programs during Fall 2014/Winter 2015 terms. Fees change from year to year and assessments depend on the number of courses and the program in which students are registered. Note: (1) All international students are assessed an international student differential fee. For Fall 2015/Winter 2016, the international graduate student differential fee is $116.58 per unit of fee index. (2) International students who become Permanent Residents of Canada may be eligible for a reassessment of the differential fee. See the Change to Permanent Resident section for more information. Students covered by equivalent health/dental plans may opt out before the change of coverage deadline in September. Note: (1) Non-instructional fees are not assessed for Spring/Summer sessions unless a student registers in an additional course (that isn't a THES course). (2) For international students, program fees are assessed with the addition of an international fee differential. For Fall 2016-Summer 2017, this amount is $3,188.64, on top of the base program fee of $3,662.40. (3) International students who become Permanent Residents of Canada may be eligible for a reassessment of the differential fee. See theChange to Permanent Resident section for more information. Please note: Any thesis based student registered in a thesis program AND who enrolls in a cost recovery course, will be charged an additional cost recovery fee for that course. The instructional fees for Spring or Summer courses taken for credit are determined by multiplying the fee index units of each course by the Spring/Summer graduate fee index value approved annually by the Board of Governors. For international students the fee index is $104.02, plus a differential fee index is also levied of $116.58 for a total of $220.60
Non-instructional Fees All Spring/Summer graduate students, whether registered full-time or part-time, international, Canadian or permanent resident, are assessed the following non-instructional fees per term: Student Academic Support Athletics & Recreation PAW Centre Student Health and Welness U-Pass: (either assessed for Spring/Summer term, but not both) Please Note: Thesis based students admitted Fall 2011 onwards are NOT assessed non instructional fees UNLESS they register in a non-Thesis subject course. Notes: Spring/Summer students are NOT assessed the Graduate Students' Association (GSA) Fee, the GSA Dedicated Fee, or the GSA Health and Dental Plan Fees. However, if the student paid the GSA health/dental fee in the previous fall term, coverage will extend until the end of August. International students are assessed an International Student Differential Fee. Fees for Fall and Winter Terms are different. Cost recovery programs (MACT, MSc in Internetworking, MEd in Educational Studies, Executive MBA, Ft McMurray MBA, Fast Track MBA) assess fees differently. Contact the department for details. MBA programs have a Program Differential Fee. Contact the MBA office for details. Fees for audit courses are calculated differently. Living costs vary greatly based on the type of accommodation, whether you are sharing accommodation with roommates, and your overall standard of living. All figures are in Canadian dollars (CAD).
