/beɪl ||; bel/noun [U] money that sb agrees to pay if a person accused of a crime does not appear in front of the court on the day he/she is called. When bail has been arranged, the accused person can go free until that day. 保释金: She was released on bail of £2000. 她以2000英镑保外候审。The judge set bail at £10000. 法官把保释金定为10000英镑。The judge felt that he was a dangerous man and refused him bail. 法官认为他是个危险人物,不准他保释。She was granted bail. 她获准保释。

1 to obtain sb's freedom by paying money to the court 保释(某人): Her parents went to the police station and bailed her out. 她的父母去警察局保释了她。
2 to rescue sb or sth from a difficult situation (especially by providing money) 解救,解困(尤指用金钱): If you get into trouble don't expect me to bail you out again! 如果你惹了麻烦,别再指望我来帮你的忙!
