1 (formal 正式) to (officially) give sb what he/she has asked for (正式)给予,允许(所求): He was granted permission to leave early. 他获准提早离开。
2 to agree (that sth is true) 同意;承认: I grant you that New York is an interesting place but I still wouldn't want to live there. 你固然说得对,纽约是个有趣的地方,可我仍不想住在那里。
take sb/sth for granted to be so used to sb/sth that you forget his/her/its true value and are not grateful 对…不予重视;视…为理所当然: In developed countries we take running water for granted. 发达国家的人把自来水看成是理所当然的东西。 take sth for granted to accept sth as being true 认为或相信某事属实: We can take it for granted that the new students will have at least an elementary knowledge of English. 我们可以认为,那些新生的英语水平至少应该达到初级程度。
