1 the quality or the level of ability, importance, etc that sb/sth has (按质量、能力、重要性等来分的)等级: Which grade of petrol do you need? 你要哪一种汽油?We need to use high-grade materials for this job. 干这活儿得用高级材料。
2 a mark that is given for school work, etc or in an exam 课业或考试成绩的等级: He got good/poor grades this term. 他这个学期的成绩挺好╱不好。Very few students pass the exam with a grade A. 没几个学生这次考试得甲等过关。
3 (US 美) a class or classes in a school in which all the children are the same age 年级: My daughter is in the third grade. 我女儿在念三年级。
make the grade(informal 非正式) to reach the expected standard; to succeed 达到预期的水平;成功: She wanted to be a professional tennis player, but she didn't make the grade. 她想当职业网球选手,但达不到这个水平。

/greɪd ||; gred/verb [T] (often passive 常用于被动语态) to put things or people into groups according to their quality, ability, size, etc (按质量、能力、大小等)分类,分等级: I've graded their work from 1 to 10. 我从1到10给他们的作业评分。Eggs are graded by size. 鸡蛋按大小分级。
