In the past, important knowledge about culture and history was stored in museums. Nowadays, information is freely available on the Internet; therefore, there is no longer any need for museums. To what extent do you agree or disagree?(2024/04/27)

Introduction

The Internet has been spreading at an astounding rate in recent years. Some harbor the idea that because individuals have unfettered access to historical artifacts and cultural relics online, visiting public museums is of little necessity. However, I take exception to this ludicrous assertion.

解析

这是一道单边观点类议论文,话题结合博物馆和科技,论述博物馆是否可以被电子产品取代;注意题目中的因果关系,因为“信息可以线上获取”,所以“博物馆没有必要存在”,讨论时可以否定原因从而否定结果,也可以否定结果本身;

? astoundingadj.

? unfettered   adj.无拘无束的;

? take exception to 反对或抗议

? ludicrous   adj.

Body 1

Indisputably, computers, no longer confined to geographical barrier, make people convenient to acquire information about historical knowledge. When a person is too swamped to visit a museum in person, viewing exhibitions online is a cost-effective and time-efficient option.It makes sense that people may easily learn a great deal about foreign cultures and world history by watching well-designed films or documentaries. Nevertheless, the stunning visual sensation that actual travel provides, out of question, beats insipid one conveyed by virtual observation online.Visitors, having a gentle touch on some exhibits, may experience the landscape in a more straightforward and thorough manner. Meanwhile, by listening to docents equipped with professional knowledge introducing assorted antiques in a vivid fashion, tourists may ignite the interest about history and then grasp accurate information of museums. In contrast, what they garner from the Internet is only a general plain overview or other dilettantes’ second-hand knowledge to mislead viewers.

解析

(1) 计算机使人们可以方便地获取信息;

(2)实体游览提供令人惊叹的视觉感受是网上虚拟观察无法超越的;

?swamped  忙于...的

?stunning  adj.极好的,极吸引人的;

?insipid    adj.

?docent   n.

?garner    vt.获得;储存;

?dilettante  n.

Body 2

Furthermore, knocking down museums takes its toll on carrying forward traditional culture. Public museums serve as unique repositories of a country's heritage, keep a unique record of a country and  form a cultural identity, playing midwife to researching into the past and educating future generations. With these structures, youngsters are able to have profound appreciation about their cultural heritage and develop a strong sense of national pride. Moreover, these buildings, if utilized and preserved properly, could actually boost economic development. Persuasive examples for this argument would be Palace Museum in Beijing and the British Museum. As iconic landmarks of the city and nation, they attract a sea of sightseers every year,  generating oceans of revenue for the government.

解析

(1) 拆除博物馆会对传统文化的传承造成负面影响;

(2) 博物馆实际可以吸引大量游客促进经济发展;

? take its toll on对某人或某物造成损害或影响

?repository     n.贮藏室,仓库;

?play midwife to 有助于

?iconic     adj.图符的,象征性的;

? a sea of大量的、许多的某物

Conclusion

In conclusion, notwithstanding the fact that the Internet has rendered it accessible for people to obtain everything they long to know about history and culture, brick-and-mortar museums, an outlet to display the charisma of a city in a sweepingly inclusive and penetratingly minute way,  can never make way for electronic gadgets.

解析

?notwithstanding  prep.

?charisma    n.个人魅力,感召力;

?sweepingly   adv.

?penetratingly   adv.
